The organization Arte-Suelo-Ser is dedicated to promoting the importance of soils through a transdisciplinary approach. Since 2020, we have carried out various activities focused on raising awareness, facilitating, and disseminating information about the different ecosystem services provided by soils, as well as promoting sustainable and conservation practices.
In 2022, we proposed The Virtual Soil Museum of the Caribbean project in collaboration with USDA-NRCS, with the goal of building an educational platform about Caribbean soils. This ongoing project has received support from various agencies and organizations, and among its initiatives is the Learning and Research Program, in which we include the Soil Health for One Health component.
One of the objectives of the program is to explain the different parameters used in soil health analysis in an accessible way through an educational exhibit. As part of this initiative, we are seeking four agricultural projects that incorporate conservation practices and promote soil health to participate in this program.
Arte-Suelo-Ser will conduct soil health analyses on the selected farms, and the results will be shared with the farmers through a pamphlet that includes the interpretation of these results. The information obtained from these analyses will be integrated into the Caribbean Soils Museum project, without indicating the specific origin of the data, unless the farmer feels comfortable and wishes for it to be published.
The Arte-Suelo-Ser team will be responsible for conducting soil sampling by visiting your farm on one occasion. A compensation will be provided to the custodian of the farm for the time and effort dedicated to participating and collaborating in the project. The amount of compensation will range from $150 to $250, depending on the final costs associated with the laboratory analyses.
Funds provided by USDA-NRCS.
USDA and Arte-Suelo-Ser are equal opportunity providers and employers.
